The following petition was submitted to the Board on March 24, 2008 following the approval of our revised gifted and talented policy: We, the undersigned, thank the Upper Saddle River Board of Education for updating Board Policy No. 2464 Gifted and Talented Pupils. We ask that this Board fulfill its responsibility to academically gifted children by ensuring that the practices and programs implemented by the District appropriately meet the needs of "those students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability when compared to their chronological peers . . . ", as required under New Jersey state law. We do not believe the current practices and programs of the District meet the needs of these academically gifted children. We, the undersigned, support the implementation of such appropriate practices and programs for academically gifted children as doing so will improve he learning experience for all children in the classroom and will enhance the quality, effectiveness and reputation of our school system.
